What I have learned over my 25 year career as a portrait photographer…
• Be generous and help the next one in line • Use the equipment that you have, save for what you want • Spend carefully, debt is never worth the stress • You don’t have to pick just one category / niche to photograph - it’s good to have a variety of income streams • There are many personalities of people, so be patient with your clients • Always talk with your client about what they envision for the photoshoot (locations, clothing, feeling of the photos) so you can shoot for exactly what they want • Be organized and let your clients know “what to expect” about your process of photography and final delivery of products • There are many ways to run a photography business - what works for one person, might not work for you • Keep things simple • Find one or two photographers that you really like and learn from them • Create a personal photography project - it’s so rewarding when you have a personal passion to share with the world.
“A great portrait shows the essence of who you are in the environments that move your soul. ”
